Learn about sundown towns



Do you see your community as welcoming? It likely doesn't feel that way to everyone. Sundown towns were white only and dangerous to Black travelers under any circumstance. Black Americans still feel fear when traveling by car in America. Use this map to see what towns near your hometown may have been sundown towns. Renée Cherez's essay on sundown towns is a must read for all Americans. While you might have heard about these types of neighborhoods if you've seen The Green Book, many anti-racist educators are recommending that instead, you watch Lovecraft Country on HBO, which better illustrates the psychological warfare Black Americans are forced to endure daily. Black Americans still feel fear when traveling by car in America.
